No Surprises Act

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 established additional requirements to protect consumers from surprise medical bills. These requirements are referred to as “No Surprises” rules.

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers must give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not accessing their insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.

  • The Good Faith Estimate should be delivered in writing at least 3 business days before a scheduled service. You may also ask your provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule service. We deliver GFEs via our client portal, and you will receive notice via email when its been prepared for your viewing.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may dispute the bill.
